About Club

Rotary Club Of Pune, Sahawas, came into existence vide Rotary International Charter on May 9th, 2010, Rotary Club of Pune, Gandhibhavan being the parent sponsor club. Rtn. Chandrashekhar Takalkar was the Charter President and Rtn. Shilpa Mahajan was Charter Secretary. Senior Rotarian Govindrao Hardikar was GSR.

During very first year, we did some good need based projects – like “ Indrayani Balikashram, Talegaon Project “ where we donated things worth Rs. One lakh, Wheel Chair Donation Program at Seva Mitra Mandal. We had also participated in Blood Donation, Leh Project at District level. We had also done environmental based project at “Nagaon Beach” by involving local governing body. We had done a Fund raising program in aid of “ Prasnna Autism Center”, etc.

The leadership of the club was handed over to Rtn. Sunil as President & Rtn Rahul as Secretary during a grand installation ceremony on 8th July 2011.DG Rtn.MohanPalesha was the chief guest of the installation ceremony. We have come a long way since then and our club has marked its presence and name in the RI District 3131sigificantly. This was possible by active participation of our Club Members at District events, conferences, Regional Cultural Meet, Competitions, etc.

We had an eventful last year with balanced weekly programs – they were full of entertainment, knowledge giving and informative. Our club members / Anns / Annettes /Annas active participation in weekly programmes was appreciable, we have also participated in the district events in the music programs, Antakhsarietc which was highly appreciated. The “ Know Your Rotarian “ program enabled us to know our fellow Rotarian / Ann  in better way We plan continue the same in the coming year also.

 

We have also participated in joint meetings with various Rotary Clubs like Shivajinagar, Sinhgad Rd.,Midtown, etc. We have participated in hosting a Program “Khoya Khoya Chand- A tribute to late Dev Anand  with five other Rotary Clubs.

 

We had done some remarkable projects – like “Health Check-up at Agarkar School“, Donating  Solar  lamps  to  needy students in the interiors where the power cut is a major issue. We had participated in projects like Blood Donation, Pulse Polio awareness at District level. We also joined hands with veteran clubs like RC ShivajiNagar, RC Mahad, etc for joint projects.

 

The highlight of the year was the hosting of “Club Administration Seminar“, which was a grand success with the presence of 275 Rotarians and total attendance of 300+ , and  that too on a Sunday evening of Makar Sankranti was a hugh success  & was highly appreciated at District Level.

 During the year , we felicitated  dignitaries like Mr. Chafalkar- Owner of City Pride Theatre Chain , Mr. Anand Jog- A well-known builder in Pune, Mr. Vasant  Vaidya- Collector , Ms. Ketaki Mategaonkar – Upcoming singer & actress for excelling in their fields, by giving them the  “Rotary Vocational Excellence Awards”.

 We got a good coverage – in Daily Sakal, Kesari, Lokmat, and KothrudMitra and also in Rotary magazines – GML – Inspiration / Rotary news for our projects and programs.

 Our Bulletin “Maitra” covered lot of areas of interests. Various articles, poems, jokes, health and cooking tips from Rotarians / anns were covered.

 

We had the visits from major District dignitaries like DG – Rtn.Mohan Palesha, DGE Rtn.Dr Deepak Shikarpur,   AG Rtn. Ravi Lanjekaretc that helped us to know more about the Rotary and the road ahead in Rotary.

  We have achieved a remarkable figure of @ $4000/- towards the contribution to Rotary Foundation. Our seven lady Rotarians responded positively to DG’s appeal for accepting the prestigious Paul Harris Pin. Also the report & presentation made by our Secretary Rtn Rahul was very well appreciated by DG Rtn.MohanPalesha during his visit to our club

  Above all, a feather in our crown was that we were able to grab the District Awards as following:

 1. Best President – Club less than Forty members

2. Balanced weekly Programs

3. Induction of Maximum no of Lady Rotarians

4. Change Maker Award.

                    

This is remarkable achievement was possible mainly due to enthusiastic & active participation of all the club members under leadership of President Sunil.

This year Rtn Dattatray Kulkarni has taken over as President in the Grand Installation Ceremaony on July10th.

 During the short span of last three ,we had also done environmental based project like “Save western Ghat at Tamhini,”  by  involving  local governing  body .,”Career Guidance

 

for the students of Dynasanvardhini Mahavidyalaya”, E Waste awareness & collection in the area of Club vicinity by approaching about 10000 houses through handbills  posters, banners, etc.

 While continuing the same trend we felicitated  Mr. Yeshwant Vadavane, Dr. Pradeep Sethia till date..

The year 2014-15 Rtn. Vinod Deshpande has taken over as President in the Grand Installation Ceremony on 11th July, 2014 at Royal Connaught Boat Club.

Below are few important projects executed during his tenure..

 Vana Mahotsav - The First Ambitious project hosted by Rotary club of Pune Sahawas. Our RI District 3131 adopted a 33 Acre Hill  at Sus from Pune Municipal Corporation for Tree Plantation. About 5000 plants are to be planted over there in coming five years. Ex President Rtn. Vinod Deshpande did not miss the opportunity to Host this Project. In Rotary year 2014 -15 the first phase of this project was to plant more than 1000 plants.

More than 1000 Rotarians, Anns, Annas, Annets, Students from schools and colleges gathered on Sus hill. District Governor Vivek Arhana initiated the plantation and then all the people present there took part in the plantation. The important part in this was the maintainance of the plants. Ex President Vinod’s Team constructed 5  Water tanks of 5 to 10 thousand liter capacity at various places.PMC is supplying the water. One water tank is sponsored by RCP Sahawas and remaining four are Sponsored by other clubs. The Arrangements of fellowship in the morning was done by RCP Nigadi. Important Delegates from PMC and Rotary district 3131 were present and the programme was concluded with the Speech of our DG Rtn.Vivek Arhana.

 

Dengue Awareness - Since last 3-4 years there is a fear about Dengue by which most of the people are affected. The mosquitoes are produced on pure water and that too in the day time. So, it was highly necessary to create the awareness in people regarding this. Pune Municipal corporation and Rotary District 3131 jointly took up this project. On behalf of RCP Sahawas Ex President Vinod Deshpande decided to host this Project. The starting point was Shanivar Wada. PMC Mayor Dattatraya Dhankawade, Our DG Vivek Arhana,Rotarians were present in large numbers. 49 Rikshaws were sponsored by various Rotary clubs having Flex on them with pictures

 

showing how to take care against Dengue. Also they had speaker arrangements on each rickshaw announcing ,how to prevent the production of Dengue mosquitoes. These rickshaws were running all over the Pune city throughout the day. All the logistics was managed by RCP Sahawas Ex Pre. Vinod Deshpande.

 

Health Check up of House maids - This project was done in Rahul Park society near Warje. Hameoglobin, Eye check up and Blood pressure was checked. Ex President Vinod, Charter Pres.Shekhar Takalkar and Rtn. Dr. Manavikar to ok initiative in this and the project was highly successful as 120 housemaids were checked from a single society Rahul Park. All the Rotarians, Anns of RCP Sahawas were present to help the Doctors and to make necessary arrangements. This created very good public image in the members of the society which helped in formation of new Rotary club in that Area.

 

Indrayani Balikashram - This is our ongoing project started in 2010-11.About 25 girls are staying there and learning.They are all affected by various reasons who needed safe shelter which is provided by Sanjivani Balikashram previously known as Indrayani Balikashram.Ex  President Vinod Deshpande appealed to all Rotarians of RCP Sahawas to donate Rs. One Lakh to the Balikashram. Whereas the members helped  full heartedly and RCP Sahawas donated Rs. One lakh five thousand. We did not need to use the funds from the Club. It is decided to take up this project every alternate year. More than 25 Rotarians attended this project and was concluded by Fellowship sponsored by Ex Pre.Vinod and Lunch at the residence of Rt. Mohan & Ashwini Phadnis at Talegaon.

 

 

District Fellowship at Lonavala – was co hosted by our club along with 5 more clubs and was a great success. It was named Cloud 9 as it was arranged in the mid of rainy season. It was a pleasure to all those who attended 16 member of our club attended the event.

Service to community will be provided by developing resources like increased membership, friendship, financial support from doners, fund raising, global grants, CSR and more innovative ideas ; and all this by maintaining transparency and ethics.
